Michel de Lagausie (
son of François de Lagausie ).
I am a "Methods and tools" software
engineer, on retirement.
I implement this Web site
to spread this important and original Economic Value Theory.
Friends : economist,
sociologist , philosopher, urban, ... we are all concerned
by this theory.
What are the impacts on
your domain ?

For example,
I propose to put on this web site, any report that you may
produce to promote the diffusion of this theory.
I am not an economist, so I
only be capable to facilitate the access to this theory, without
the capacity to participate strongly to the debate of the
specialists.
Impact on a new theory of the Quality
:
This approach of the economic value is
reusable for an other complex concept, the concept of "Quality". I speak for
example of the quality of a computer or the quality a simple artisan tool.
The French AFNOR definition of the "Quality"
is (I resume) << ... the capability to satisfy the user needs >> This
complex concept could be understood with also three points of view :
-
The
usages of the tool : the level of the value judgment ex: to be
satisfied or not of this tool for this specific usage ?
-
The
capacities of the tool : the level where we can measure the performance of
the processes (ex: training process)
-
The
structure of the tool : it is the level where we can measure the
characteristics (size, weight, nb of functions, ...)
Remark : understanding these two concepts
with the same approach permit to speak of the "quality / cost"
ratio as a ratio of two Values.
For soft men:
Applying this concept of Economic Value to
the Quality concept, should permit to build a more clear
techniques to measure software quality.
I used to implement metrics involving for
example Halstead measurements as well as Mc. Call
metrics, but with a clear separation between Criteria and
Quality Factors.
-
The usages of a tool : for example develop a web site and
be satisfied with his computer and web site development
software tool.
-
The capacities of a tool
: The Quality Factors of Mc. Call ( ex. measure
performances, the degree of usability, reliability, etc.)
-
The tool structure :
measure Halstead metrics (ex: nb of operands, their nb of
occurrences),
or measure the number of lines of code, nb of menus,
subroutines sizes, etc.
Using this point of view Mc. Call should have
build a more clear method :
- The Criteria must be only
intrinsic characteristics of a software tool.
- The Quality Factors must be
only performances of using processes, (the
capacities of the tool).
